Lory & Bill – A Backyard Wedding in Concord, NH

Lory and Bill originally hoped for a New England Costal wedding, but ultimately decided to host their nuptials in their own backyard.  We were called in to spruce up the existing gardens and provide floral designs for the big day.

Pastel Centerpiece

To capture a little bit of that coastal feel, we created centerpieces that had a “just picked” feel to them and fit the delicate color palette.  Lavender and white Stock, purple Lisianthus, pale yellow Roses, yellow Status, pink Alstromeria, Queen Anne’s Lace and Bluplerum fit the bill.

Purple calla lily bouquet

Lory was thrilled to find out that her favorite flower, Calla Lilies, come in shades of purple.  I mixed both plum and lavender together and finished the her bouquet with a collar of Hosta leaves.Purple bouquet

The little details they added made a big difference.  Especially all the lanterns hung from the tent ceiling!

Virtual Baby Shower – A Party Delivered to Your Door!

We had the opportunity to pull off a really neat surprise a few weeks ago.  Ever heard of a virtual baby shower?  Don’t worry, we hadn’t either!

In an age where family and friends often live so very far apart and telecommuting is commonplace, planning an event and getting all the guests in one place if often difficult.  The mom-to-be in this scenario works for a large firm with many locations around the world, but works from her home in Massachusetts.  Her co-workers wanted to throw her a shower but were so scattered that coming together just wasn’t an option.  Instead of just sending gifts, they devised a plan to throw her a virtual shower.  Genius!

Baby Shower Flowers

The plan was to to stage a fake video conference with all of the “guests” and have us roll up to the door a few minutes into the meeting with a basket of flowers, the gifts and some tasty treats.  Gifts were sent to us ahead of time and Pam picked up an assortment of muffins from the new mommy’s favorite local cafe.

Virtual baby shower We tucked this little furry friend into the arrangement before delivery

Everything was in place and Pam rung the doorbell at the appointed time, hands full of goodies.  Then she knocked.  Then she knocked again.  No answer.  Turns out the recipient was in her bunker of an office and couldn’t hear a thing!  After texting back and forth with our company contact and some more ringing and knocking, the woman of the hour was finally told to go answer her door already!  (The only hiccup in an otherwise well thought-out plan.)  She was so surprised and everyone got to watch and comment as she opened her gifts, just as you would at a normal shower.

Such a cool idea and a pleasure to be a part of!

From the Wildflower Garden

With such hot and muggy weather forecasted today, we are staying cool and catching up on things inside for a change.  I finally got around to downloading photos from my camera onto the computer and found these snapshots I had taken a week or two back of blooms in my wildflower garden.  Last summer I scattered a partial shade mix of seeds along the back fence of our yard in hopes of adding a low maintenance mix of color and greens.  Success!

How many years have you been in business?     5 Years.

What makes you stand out from other photographers?    I’m a firm believer that the best photographers are the ones who are the most invisible. I shoot very ‘fly on the wall’ and strive to find the most natural and interesting moments.

What's your favorite part of the work?    Arriving on location for a shoot is exhilarating; there’s boundless energy and excitement to capture.

Collinsworth Photography

Are you seeing any trends emerge for the next season?    I’ve noticed that couples are doing more and more anniversary shoots, which I love. Similar to engagement shoots, anniversary shoots can be as creative and elaborate as the couple. I think it’s especially sweet when the couple ties things from their wedding into their anniversary shoot. I’ve seen brides have their wedding bouquets re-imagined, jewelry re-purposed, and even locations re-invented.

Pricing Information:  Some of my favorite weddings have been small ceremonies and backyard events. I realize that often times this comes from the need to keep within a certain budget. Because of this, I offer small-wedding packages for couples looking to just have their ceremony and portraits captured.

If you have any spare time, how do you spend it? I just got a place in Charleston, SC and have been strolling through this romantic city with my camera and getting excited for the upcoming wedding season. Not to mention… the beaches options are plentiful!
