Happy New Year!

happy_new_year

2009 was certainly an eventful year for Ideas in Bloom. Kristin became a full-time member of the crew, thereby expanding our workforce and design expertise. We designed, installed, and maintained gardens for a number of unique properties. We were also fortunate to be a part of some of our most beautiful weddings yet. The holiday season provided many opportunities to showcase our talents: the Bedford Village Inn Holiday Shopping Stroll, the Nashua Symphony Orchestra & Chorus Holiday House Tour, and many custom orders for outdoor and indoor decor. Also to be added to our list of accomplishments is our technological advancements: the creation of this new blog, and our business page on Facebook. We hope you’ve enjoyed the periodic updates, event notifications, and photos.

2010 promises to be a great year for us as well. We’ll be spending the next few months designing for the upcoming season’s garden and landscape work. Let us know if you’d like to spruce up your yard this summer! We’ll also be at the New Hampshire Wedding Magazine Bridal Show at CR Sparks in Bedford on February 21. Did you or someone you know get engaged over the holidays? This event features a great array of wedding professionals (including us!) from Southern New Hampshire as well as many door prizes. We have a number of weddings booked for 2010, including one of our own! Kristin and her fiancĂ©, Chris, will finally tie the knot on June 12th. Stay tuned for the photos!

Our heartfelt thanks to all of our staunch supporters, clients, and fans. As a small business your continued support plays an integral role in our success.

All our best for a happy and healthy year ahead,

Pam & Kristin

A Beautiful Autumn Wedding - October 10, 2009

We were honored to create the floral pieces for the wedding of family friends this past weekend. The cold and rainy weather cleared in time to provide a sunny fall day at the Brass Heart Inn up north in Chocorua, NH.

Embracing an autumn theme, the bride a palette reflecting the changing New England leaves to compliment her bridesmaids' green dresses. Each of the five attendants carried a bark wire wrapped bouquet of rust-colored calla lilies, deep red gerbera daisies, orange spray roses, protea, green berries, and various greens. The maid of honor carried a bouquet similar to her fellow attendants with the addition of bright sunflowers to distinguish her from the group.

The bride's bouquet was a wash of white with green and brown rustic accents. Full ivory roses and white calla lilies were softened with green hydrangea, white stock, and seasonal greens. Also included were white ranunculus, a particular favorite of the bride's.

The groom wore a white calla lily boutonniere to mirror his bride's bouquet, while the groomsmen modeled similar pieces with rust-colored callas to match the bridesmaids. Each boutonniere featured green hypericum berries and green wire wrap detail.

The bridal party entered the outdoor ceremony through a columned archway framed by a grapevine swag with minimal green accents. Copper flower buckets hung from shepherd hooks lined the aisle. Each bucket contained a mix of seasonal greens and flowers. A large grapevine swag adorned the arbor under which the couple were married. Greens and flowers were added to the arbor so as to reflect the bouquets and aisle arrangements.

The reception was held inside the Inn's barn. Given the barn's structural interest, the bride kept the decorations simple, choosing non-floral centerpieces and repurposing the floral buckets around the venue. We filled existing glass sconces with gold-threaded rustic fabric and silk foliage to complete the decoration.

The Holidays are Fast Approaching

Yes, it's true, summer is at its close and the collective sighs of our New Englander friends can be heard far and wide. Ideas in Bloom is embracing the promise of the crisp days ahead and we've begun gearing up for a busy holiday season.
Though the gardening season winds to it's end, we have much to prepare for as we think of fall and (gasp) winter decor.

Included here are just a few of our samplings from holidays past. New photos will be posted as we make our way through the next few months. We will also have a table at the annual Bedford Village Inn post-Thanksgiving shopping day on November 28. Check back here for more information on that event as we draw closer.

In addition, we provide custom indoor and outdoor decor for all seasons: window box dressings; mums; specialty container pieces; evergreen arrangements, swags and wreaths; holiday floral pieces; etc. Let us dress up your home or provide you with that unique hostess gift you've been looking for!

May 2008 Wedding

We had a great time creating the floral decor for the wedding of one of our local clients last May. It was a beautiful day for an outdoor wedding and the all pink motif was a perfect compliment to the happy occasion.

The bride and her bridesmaids carried hand tied bouquets of pink roses, sweet peas, and green wire spirals. The groom and his companions wore pink rose boutonnieres with green wire detail.

Silver urns were filled with roses in several shades of pink and placed on round mirrors in the reception tent to create a dramatic reflection in the evening light. Two large urns filled with blooming branches and fresh flowers framed the ceremony arbor, which was completed with a large floral spray. Both the urns and the spray were re-purposed to decorate the reception tent following the ceremony.

September 12, 2009 Wedding

Our niece/cousin tied the knot this past Saturday and we provided the floral pieces for the ceremony and reception. The bride chose a simple, yet rich, plum, green and white theme for her big day. There's no rule that says all fall weddings have to match the turning leaves!

The goal for this wedding was to create
bridal flowers that were a modern take on the traditional romantic style. We went for a dramatic punch, massing only a handful of flower types in each bouquet. The bridesmaids carried hand-ties of white hydrangea as well as ivory and jade green roses, with bear grass woven in for a contemporary touch. The bride carried a looser bouquet of green mini hydrangea, ivory roses, white stock, and purple accent flowers. Each bouquet featured a hand-woven ribbon and pearl pin
wrap detail. The groom sported a simple ivory rose boutonniere with plum accent and bark wire detail.

The wedding was originally scheduled to be held outdoors, but the weather in the northeast was not cooperative and both the ceremony and reception were moved inside. Beautiful urns with white and purple live plantings welcomed guests in the foyer and adorned the ceremony area. Full Boston ferns were placed on plum fabric squares as centerpieces. They were then surrounded with birch log votive holders (as crafted by Condon & Fox Building Corp). Last minute arrangements of native New Hampshire hydrangeas were made up on the spot to adorn the gift table and multiple pots of white phlox, additional ferns, and purple mums completed the room.

The trouble in working and attending a wedding is that there is never enough time to snap pictures of all of your pieces! Unfortunately we missed all four of the urns and a large arrangement of white roses, stock, and purple accent flowers.
